Katelyn in action

At breakfast the other day, I told her to finish her juice, and she did. Then she said, seriously and without any rudeness or attitude, "I did it, for cryin' out loud." Guess she's heard that a few times. :-)

Yesterday I left the oats out while I heated their milk on the stove. I came back to find oats sprinkled all over the counter, stove and floor (and chair dragged from the table to reach). Not until today did I move the rarely-used teapot from the stove so I could make some mac n cheese, and I found it half full of oats. Little mischievous goof!

It's been a while, but they're still funny!

Cindy Fishel Cruse, Breanna recited the entire Lord's Prayer last night as her bedtime prayer, and Katelyn didn't want to be left out. So for her turn, Karen Hoover Ralston, Katelyn said, "Dear God, Thank you for the glory, and to the glory, invisible, under God. Amen."

Then this morning on the way to school, we were listening to Veggietales worship songs with Matt Redman, and I said I thought we sang a song at church yesterday by Matt Redman. Breanna said, "A pickle?" I said, "What?" She said, "We sang a song by a pickle?" I had to explain that Matt was a guest on the Veggie's CD, but that he is a real person. :-)

Katelyn on Broadway

"Jaaaa-cob, Jacob and sons. Early one morning, to/in anyone's book."

Katelyn's version of a Joseph song.  Always makes me smile.  :-)

The Lorax and the Lost Sheep??

While looking at a book called The Shepherd and the Lost Sheep, Katelyn took the little fabric sheep and gave it a cute little voice and said, "I am the lost sheep.  I speak for the trees."  Guess she's getting Dr. Seuss confused with Jesus.  I'll need to work on that!

On a side note, our little Etch A Sketch won't draw vertical lines any more.  Where is Buddy the Elf when you need him???

That daughter of mine...

A few recent Breanna moments:

After several attempts to convey that we had all eaten too much junk food, and to stop asking for more snacks, I finally said, with much exasperation, "There will be no more snacks today! How many different ways do I need to say it?" Without missing a beat, Breanna said, "In French."

Now that I write that, this one doesn't sound very good, but we were making cookies today (for Daddy's work), and Breanna said, "Mommy, your balls look great!" I know, I know, inappropriate, but still funny. :-)

Be calm, calmly

Katelyn's Rapunzel and Ariel dolls were arguing today, so I told her she need to tell them, calmly, "Sit down and be quiet."  She promptly said to them, "Calmly sit down and be quiet."  Guess she didn't hear the comma placement, but it still works.  :-)

Things I never thought I'd say, Part (I don't know - I lost count)

Katelyn, don't put the lizard in your hair!

(She found one of those floppy, rubbery lizard toys and brought it to me saying her hair was sticking to it, so obviously she should just not put it in her hair, only that sounds kind of funny when you hear yourself saying it!!!)

Be Healthy!!

A few days ago, I was trying to convince Breanna that sweets and junk just aren't the best decision. I even threw in that God made us, we're special, and we should take care of our bodies to honor Him. A couple days after that, she randomly asked me, "Mom, will I still go to heaven if I eat too many french fries?"

Wednesday, July 4, 2012

The other day, while I was in the bathroom, hoping to have a private moment to, you know, read, Katelyn came in all upset and said, "Mommy, I have a boo-boo right..."  ...looking, looking, looking...she examined every inch of her right leg, front and back, switched over to her left left with no luck, changed back to her right leg and finally found what may have at one time been a tiny scratch..."there!!!"  Pout, pout.  I was glad it wasn't serious, but I kind of wish my bathroom time hadn't been interrupted, especially since Katelyn was soon followed by Breanna who just hung out with Katelyn, waiting for me to be done.

Ah, the life of a mommy.  :-)

Abstract Art

Breanna, examining a Playdoh piece, thinking it was Katelyn's creation, when it was really just an unused blob:

"That looks just like a sea lion!! ...  Or a weenie-dog."

Cuz those two are easily mistaken for each other.

Health food

Breanna tried to convince me that Sprite was a healthy drink because it has lemons and pickles in it. :-)

God's Omnipresence

Listening to Jesus Christ Superstar led to an explanation of how Jesus already knew Judas would betray him. I tried to explain how God knows everything, even what we're thinking, no matter who we are or where we are. Breanna said, "Even South Americans? Even Chileans? Even Asia-ans?"

Breanna has a boyfriend!! ;-)

Breanna told me this morning that Noah is her boyfriend.  I said, "Oh, really?"  She said, "Yeah.  6 year olds can have boyfriends.  And he runs away every time I say his name."  OK.  Guess I don't need to be too concerned.  She also went on to list about 4 other boys who are her "boyfriends."  :-)  You know, cuz they're friends...and they're boys.  :-)

Breanna's Journal

Breanna's journal page from 3/28/12 said to "Draw and label how to travel by air." She wrote, "The helcoptr can travl bi ar. I can travl bi Jeses Loord." I said, "You can travel by Jesus?" and she said, "Yes, I can float in the clouds to heaven with Jesus." :-)

Chi-What?

Breanna quoted a Skippy John Jones book, saying, "I'm not a Siamese cat, I'm a chihuahua" (imagine a funny voice and gestures). Not to be outdone, Katelyn jumped up and (with the same voice and gestures) said, "I not a shiny cat, I a cha cha."

Breanna's silliness

Breanna on weather: "But it didn't snow in winter!!! Was God sleepin' or somethin'?"

And just now, she was singing, "Baby, Baby, Baby, Oh," etc, etc, and I asked her where she heard that. She said Harmony was singing it at school, and it was some boy. It wasn't Michael Jackson, but it was some other boy. :-)

Katelyn's Bedtime Prayers

"Thank you Daddy's home, and thank you Mommy's home, and thank you Sissy's home, and Katelyn, and Daddy and Mommy, and all my family. And I don't like the carrots."

Every single time...

Breanna may be challenging at times, but seeing her little smiling face waiting to catch my eye before she walks into school with her sweet little wave just turns my heart to mush.

Where are we again?

On the way to the carnival at school, Breanna mentioned a kid in her class knowing all the continents, so we went through her city, state, country, up to continent. She didn't know it, so I said, "It's not South America, but..." and she said, "New Jersey?" Haha. Still makes me LOL.

Katelyn's words

One of the little things that makes me smile: When Katelyn asks nicely for "emolade."

Two updates

Shane has taught the girls about noogies (sp), so now Katelyn likes to come up and "Snuggy" me all the time.

Ab Ripper X with Breanna and Katelyn is quite amusing. Limbs flailing all about (and the girls look pretty crazy, too). :-) It's really cute, but frustrating to hear exclamations of "I'm eckercising, Mama!" while they're doing Fifer scissors with the bottom foot on the floor, and Mason Twists with their feet on the floor. But tonight, our second round, Katelyn was saying, "Iss goin' be tricky, Mama!" before every new move, so at least I was smiling for part of the time. I highly recommend doing Ab Ripper X with your children/toddlers at least once just to see how it goes. :-)

Games with Katelyn

Playing games with Katelyn yesterday, she was reading me the directions for Princess Checkers. But I'm pretty sure they don't actually refer to either Katelyn or Mama by name. And I'm also pretty sure Tic-Tac-Toe isn't played by her removing all my pieces and replacing them with her own. :-)

Frosty according to Katelyn

Frosty, the snowman,
hmm,hmm,hmm,hmm,hmm,way
An' wave goodbye
An' button nose
An' you not cry
He be back again someday.

No bragging, and no vegetables, either!

Katelyn was excited that she made a match in Princess Go Fish, and Breanna accused her of bragging. Katelyn may not have heard correctly, or it could be that she doesn't know what that means, but she replied, saying indignantly, "I'm not broccoli!"

Breanna's parenting technique

Breanna & Katelyn are playing mommy and baby. Right now, Breanna is the mommy and Katelyn is playing on the slide. I just heard:

B: Okay, 1 more slide and then it's bedtime.
K slides.
B: Okay, it's bedtime.
K: One more!
B: Okay, 3 more, or we won't have time for stories.

Guess Breanna has heard my general bedtime bribe/threat enough, but she'll have to work on the details. :-)

Everyone hates commercials

Until just now, Katelyn didn't seem to know that a commercial was only temporary. She would say, "More [whatever show was on], Mommy!" Just now, she popped into the laundry room, like it was no big deal, like she said this all the time, and said, "Mom, kershimal's on."

An ear for music

Breanna recognized that the general sound of the opening Tangled song is similar to the Curious George song, and I said she has an ear for music. She said, "Both of them!"

Silly girls!

Breanna, telling me about a new website they play games on at school: "There's dot to dots, Monkey Business..." I interrupt, "What's Monkey Business about?" She said, "Um, monkeys that have business."

Then later, the TV came on to something football on ESPN before I changed it to a kids' show, and Katelyn yelled, "Get that ball, man!!!" Gee, who is responsible for that one?!?!? :-)

Fabulous!!!

Breanna wants to play outside since it's so nice. I said, "Daddy's dressed to play outside, but the rest of us need to change into play clothes." She said, "Yeah, because we're all so glamorous." If you could have heard her tone of voice you would have had a good chuckle like I did.

That Movie

I've been negligent in writing down the cute things the girls have said for the last two months, and now I don't remember them.

But one of the newer ongoing ones is since I pulled out The Sound of Music before Christmas. Katelyn will ask to watch it by asking for "Re Do Fa So," and it's just the cutest thing.
