Katelyn's boyfriend

Not sure if I ever got this typed up, but this is the rundown of the facts about Katelyn's boyfriend from September 2013.

His name is Kim.
He helps her with her homework on Saturdays.
He goes to Franklin College, but also to her preschool. (So that's a red flag right there, if he's in college and still needs preschool!)
I'm also concerned that I had to buckle him in for the ride to preschool.  He should really be able to do that by himself by now!
He likes eagles with big wings that flap, but Katelyn doesn't.  Again, that's a potential problem.  But I guess it's too late, since they've already been married for 2 days!

Proper Pronunciation, People!!

Okay, so I just had this conversation with my FOUR-YEAR-OLD...

Me: Lay down, blankie up.
K: Blanket, Mom. Buh-buh-Blanket.

Do those dishes!!

So one bit of news my mom gave us when we got home was that the girls did their dishes after every meal. Katelyn chimes in with, "Yup! We throwed them all in the trash!"

Night night

Shane: Goodnight, Sweetie.
Katelyn: Goodnight, Daddy.
Shane: Sweet dreams.
Katelyn: Sweet dreams, Daddy.
(as Shane left the room) Katelyn: Don't let the bites bug ya!

Awkward!!!

After our fabulous first all-family trip to Holiday World, the girls were too tired to pose for even one more picture.  Note to self: make the children pose with the giant Santa Claus on the way IN to the park.  So I was still whining about it on the parking lot tram, and Breanna said, "It's not the real Santa anyway.  It's made of wood.  It would be awkward."

Handicapped people need cheese, too!!

When a block of cheese fell out of the fridge today, and Breanna replaced it, she informed me that a friend of ours doesn't have the little lifting "handicap door" so "handicapped people can reach their cheese."

I wasn't aware that the cheese had an accessibility problem.

Mommy Tax!

Many of you know there is a "Mommy Tax" in my house.  Many times I get my kids things I don't get myself (an ice cream cone at BK, a piece of candy, etc), and I take one bite/drink off the top and call it the Mommy Tax.  They are used to it by now, and know it's coming.  :-)

Well, today, we had homemade Orange Julius shakes for breakfast.  Katelyn volunteered to carry mine to the table, and on the way she took a swig and grinned at me and said, "Katelyn Tax!"

Role Reversal

I asked Katelyn today if she was excited to start school soon, and I told her it would just be a couple more weeks.  She said she wished it was today, and I said, "But I'll miss you!"  And she replied, "But I'm come back!  Every day!  Not on the bus, though."

More of Katelyn's Mispronunciations

Clementine oranges are "Valentines."
The little stuffed Aflac duck Grammy gave her is "Afquack."

I always tell her she cracks me up, or that she makes me laugh.  So today she told me, "Mommy, you laugh me up!!!"

Wednesday of this week was a particularly hard one with Breanna, and after she had stomped off to her room, I went to talk to her and Katelyn followed me.  She then told Breanna to "Get on the program!"

One more:  "stample" = to staple, OR to stamp, separately

PiƱata = "peeyata"

Spelling Practice

As a spelling exercise, I laid down on my stomach and told Breanna to write her words with her finger on my back.  She said, "Where do I sit? On your bottom?"  I said, "Yes."  Then she said, "Oooh.  It's cushiony!"

How do you spell...

Katelyn teaching me to read before bedtime:

K:  If I put a T here (gesturing to an area on her wall), an E here, an L here, and an I here, and you put it all together (claps hands), what is it?
Me:  Teli?
K:  No.  (Shakes her head and makes the face only she can make.) Clock.

Oh no! Not that!!

Breanna and I were playing a Memory-type game, and she was getting frustrated during one particular round, because I was getting more matches.  She wasn't paying much attention to my plays or Katelyn's, and I tried to give her a bit of strategy advice here and there, to which she finally replied very angrily, "Mom, you're always trying to tell me something that makes sense!!!"  I could be accused of worse things!

How God Helps Katelyn

K: God is in heaven.
Me: And he's with us, in our hearts, helping us do what's right.
K: He helps us when we're cooking. And when we go to sleep.

I think I could use Him a little more on the first one, and she needs a whole lot more help on the second one!

Katelyn's funnies in MI

The other day I let Katelyn pick out one of those applesauce pouches, and she picked Mango Passion Banana.  In the car, she made a call on her play phone and told the person on the other end that she got Apple Juice Flamingo Banana flavor.  :-)

Since we've been at mom's house, Katelyn has avoided the downstairs bathroom because the toilet water is blue.  She will actually run all the way upstairs instead of just going there.  Today, however, was clearly an urgent situation, and she still started to head upstairs, but we told her just to go in that bathroom.  She poked her head out a minute later and excitedly said, "Mommy!!!   The blue water and the yellow make green!!!!"  So maybe now that it's entertaining, she won't avoid that bathroom any more.  :-)

Hearing Difficulties

As I was in the kitchen, making cupcakes in ice cream cones for VBS tonight, I heard Breanna from all the way across the house say in a sort of sassy voice, "You have a tummy!"

These thoughts raced through my head:  "Where did she pick up commenting on things like that?"  "Did she mean to be hurtful to Katelyn?"  "I need to have a talk with her about not pointing out physical things like that."  "Katelyn really doesn't have a big tummy anyway.  Besides, she's only 4!"  "I'll have to tell Katelyn she's perfect just like she is."

Then I realized she actually said, "You have a tardy."  Guess Katelyn was late for her class.

Chatterbox

At dinner today, Shane Gray said it's like someone flips a switch on Breanna and she can't stop talking. This is true - at every single mealtime - but also at bedtime. While laying with her in bed, I heard the following, among many other things:

"I wish there was another Hello Dolly movie."

"It would be cool if Daddy could be half dolphin. Then we could ride on him in the water all the time, and he could be a dolphin if he wanted to, and then he could make the tweeting sound and change back into Daddy."

"Hey, look! I made an "e" with Bunny's ears!"

There were more, but I can't remember them all...

It's like "Squirrel!" And I finally had to get up and leave because she was making me laugh, and she needs to GO TO SLEEP!!!

The c says...

You know your 4-yr old is done trying to sound out words when you point and say, "What sound does the 'c' make?" and she says, "Blue."

Things you never think you'll say...

Katelyn, don't put a fry in your dress.  Please take the fry out of your dress!

Words...by Katelyn

smushmallows
hanitizer
Glow in the Star Stickers
Smunchbob
thingers
panpakes
packpack
Boody
babing suits
nemanems

More words I remembered later:

overwalls (she wanted to wear them to school)
repause (as in, "I need to go potty.  Can you repause it?" or "I'll be right back. Repause," with hand out like a high five).

Spelling

Practicing spelling words with Breanna this afternoon, I said "flashlight." She replied, "f...l....r..." I interrupted with, "What?" And without missing a beat she said, "Oh, I thought you said flrshlight."

Heartfelt Writing

Breanna's latest writing piece, typed exactly as she wrote it - it's one page front and back, or I would just take a pic.  So here goes (brace yourself for the spelling, but hey, she's 7, so Mary, you're not a nut):

My Winter Break.
On Christmas day I got a pink brby unikun and a brby whith a pink dress.  I got a pink mrmad and a pink dolfpin.  A pink and prpl mrmad.  At Papa and Mimi's I can only tell you one gift and that is being with Unkl Talr and Anut mary.  Do you know the best Chistmas gift of all is being with famly?  I do.  I had a asm (awesome) brak

Bible Stories

Breanna was in the tub, so Katelyn pulled up the stool and proceeded to read her stories from the Bible.    She had a little New Testament, and started "reading" stories about Abraham...Lincoln.  And apparently he hibernated.

Profile Update

Guess I should update what shows on the right of the screen, since it appears to be from about a year and a half ago!  I'm much older now, unfortunately!!

Well, it's true, I guess.

Breanna just said out of the blue, "Mom, why did the super-hard workout you did at church not do anything?" Wondering if she was straight-up calling me fat, I asked what she meant. She said, "Well, remember when you said you worked out because you didn't want your bottom to stick out of your pants? Well, it still does." (And btw, I'm going to start the workout again soon, and also watch what I eat so that maybe it will help this time!)
