Duh, Mom!
Another Katelyn Funny: She was naming letters yesterday and she pointed out a W and said, "W." I said, "And what sound does a W make?" and she said loudly, "Duh-bull-you!" Like, duh, Mom!

I can't see in your imagination!
This afternoon Katelyn so sweetly stroked my face with her fingertips, like she sometimes does, but she kept going, all around my mouth, chin, etc. Finally she said, "Just eat it!" I must not have seen the imaginary food she was offering in the palm of her hand, but she was happy when I finally pretended to eat it, and boy was it (and the 5 handfuls after it) tasty! :-)

Breanna on traffic laws
Breanna's comment after my long-winded explanation of Michigan lefts: "In America, you can turn any way you want to. Even South."
Breanna's comment on a no parking sign: "Look mom, over there you can't go P-ways."
I'm not sure where it is okay to go P-ways, but I not it's not okay over there. :-)

Recent Funnies
Breanna taught me how to say hi in Croatian. She said we probably wouldn't go there, because it's a really long walk. Like 2 miles!
This morning, Katelyn was sharing something with Breanna and she asked if Breanna wanted some more. Breanna said, "Yeah!" and Katelyn replied, "Say, 'Yes, Ma'am!'" Guess she's heard that a few times. :-)
There were more, but I've forgotten them. And that was the whole point of this thing in the first place - so I could write them somewhere before I forgot them. Oops.

Breanna's dreams
In addition to all the career aspirations Breanna already has (drive the ice cream truck/hot cocoa car, be a doctor, have a lemonade stand, etc), she has now informed me that she's going to run a bank. But she will only give money to her Daddy and me. Everyone else will get taxes. :-)

Kidney Stones
This last week was quite the adventure in the Gray household. Shane had bronchitis on it's way to pneumonia and was off work Friday and Saturday, 7/15-7/16. Then we had a blast at the pool and Helping Hands Tuesday, 7/19. Then that night at 12:45 am he woke up in agony. He made me call 911 and they moseyed up the driveway and took him to JMH, which I now understand is the worst place to go.
Breanna: "When Daddy comes home, are they going to take the breathing technology off of him?"
I was trying to figure out what to do with the girls when the neighbor showed up about 1:15 am and offered to stay with them. I'm not going to relate the whole long story on here, since I don't have time, but when he was getting ready to come home, after I'd explained what needed to happen for him to come home, the girls demonstrated their different levels of understanding of Daddy's current situation:
Breanna: "When Daddy comes home, are they going to take the breathing technology off of him?"
Katelyn: "Daddy come home. Pee. Pee wock."

Yeah, guess I'm fat!
Shane had an old college picture of us today and Breanna asked me what he was doing with it. I said we were remembering the days when we were young, and she said, "And skinny!" I pretended to be upset (I was more shocked that she would think to say that), and she felt so bad it took a long time to calm her down!!

Guess I'm Old
Telling Breanna about Ruth, she asked if she was still "in this world" and I told her, "No, she's in heaven. She lived way before Jesus even did, so it was long, long ago." She replied, "Like when you were born?"
bugs...ew.
B: Scared!
K: Happen?
B: Scared!
K: Bug?
B: Yeah.
K: See it? ... Dross!
BTW-The bug was just a fly, but the hysteria stems from my scream as I tried to vacuum one of those nasty horribly gross millipede things from Katelyn's room. She was up till midnight and we thought it was the storms, but this morning, I asked her why she didn't sleep and she said, "Bug." :-( Sorry to have passed on my fears!

I hate tornados
Earlier, while all in the bathtub together, I was going to explain to Breanna what we would do if we heard a really loud wind (lay down and cover up). I started to say, "If the wind gets really loud all the sudden, we're going to" and she interrupted with, "scream for our lives!" At least she was laughing when she said it. :-)
I replied, "Yes, and WHILE we're doing that, etc., etc."

What kind of books do you buy those girls?
Katelyn strikes again. Many of you know she's used just about every profanity I know of in reference to everyday objects. Well, now she's all about reading her "kitty book," only "k" doesn't quite work yet, but that doesn't stop her from excitedly requesting that book by name. :-)
Awesome!
Katelyn keeps calling everything awesome. In a meeting with the guy at the bank, she was surprising him by calling various things in his office awesome. :-)
Katelyn and her colors
Katelyn likes to say wrong colors for things all the time, so I really don't know if she's color blind or just silly or just doesn't know them yet. Right now she is yelling PINK and from across the house in my bedroom, Breanna is replying, "No, ORANGE" and Katelyn is replying, "OKAY!"

Sharing art
Breanna is doing worksheets and coloring pages and then going around and giving them to all the neighbors that are out, or leaving them on their front porches. :-) Hopefully people don't think that's too weird and she's bringing a smile to their faces. The fact that she's in a nightgown with sweatpants just adds to her charm...

Friends?
Me: "Breanna, guess which friend is coming back soon? A friend who moved far away across the ocean. His name starts with the letter G, but it sounds like J."
Breanna: "Jerry? Jack? Jamie? ... Judas?" Um, no. Not any of the above, but definitely not him.

We are not getting one of those!!
Almost forgot to share the big event of yesterday. After small group, there were just a few of us left and suddenly we realized Katelyn was missing. I went looking, thinking she'd be playing in a bedroom, only to find her OUTSIDE ON A MOTORCYCLE IN THE DRIVEWAY. She had climbed all the way up and was sitting right on top "driving" it. And in a velvety (aka slippery) pants outfit. Talk about heart attack!!

We'll have to work on that...
Breanna was dressed as a bride today (a little traumatic for me) and my mom told her to run to her bedroom door and use the hallway to practice walking down the aisle. She went down the hall, and my mom started singing, "Dum, dum, da dum, dum, dum, da dum," etc. She got through the WHOLE song twice with no sign of Breanna before we heard, "Can I come out now?" Guess she missed her cue...her very long cue...

Too many commercials
Breanna was doing Color Wonder on glitter paper and I told her she had glitter all over her. She wiped her face with a wipe, which just spread it around more. She closed her eyes, and with them fluttering, said, "How do my eyes look?" I said, "Glittery." And she said, "Like Covergirl?"
Katelyn's Shapes
A three sided shape according to Katelyn: ni-gay-al. But you know at least she knows what it is!!

Katelyn, Katelyn, Katelyn
Within about 30 min this morning, Katelyn ate some Blistex, styled her hair (and forehead and eyebrow) with some of Shane's hair gook, poured a good portion of our humidifier water on herself, climbed in my bed with an old lip gloss and did a Braveheart-style warpaint job on herself, and dumped a full, large container of oatmeal on the family room floor so she could eat it (raw) out of a teacup.

Balloons and Prayers
Yesterday the girls got balloons from Rent-A-Center. As soon as we got home, Katelyn let hers go up to our high ceiling. She was upset and Breanna told her, "Pray to God that it will come back down. Sissy, fold your hands and say a prayer and God will get it back down!" So, by golly, I had to get it back down, didn't I? I couldn't reach it even jumping from a kitchen chair. But rather than bring in the ladder, I used a Rock Band drumstick to catch the loop in the string while reaching from the kitchen chair. So I was able to tell my girls, "See?!? God used me to answer your prayer: Yes!!"
So that was pretty awesome A) that Breanna wanted to comfort and reassure her sister, B) that she thought to tell Katelyn to pray, and C) that God did, indeed, answer her prayer with a yes.

Old People
Breanna informed me today that she cares about old people. I said that was really nice and asked her what old people she was referring to. She said, "Like Grammy, and Mrs. Keller and Mrs. Birchfield (BSF Teachers), Miss Karen and Miss Jenny (Pre-K Teachers), Great Granny and Aunt Dana." Sorry to some of you to be included in that particular category. :-)

How to Multitask
I just told Breanna it was time for a bath, but then realized I can't make Shane's dinner with both girls in the bath. After I muttered that out loud, Breanna said, "No, you can't, because you don't have stretchy arms like an octopus."
Oh, if only I had the stretchy arms of an octopus!

Muscles and Exercise
Breanna made me feel her muscles and I asked her if she's been working out. She said, "Yes, I've been running and jumping and yelling really loud!"

School discipline
Breanna got a time-out at school yesterday for kicking a boy. It's unclear whether she just wasn't sharing, or if he was "holding her arm really hard." I told her either way, kicking another child could get her kicked out of school next year (Kindergarten). She understood it was wrong, but then said, "I don't think they would kick me out...maybe just push me out the door really hard or something."
She went on to say maybe they would take her to the big office, because they have a big office at big schools.

She knows Jesus!
I couldn't get Breanna's growing-out bangs to stay in her ponytails this morning. I said, "Do you think they'd stay if I just told them to?" and I kid you not, she said, "No, only Jesus can work miracles."

So sorry about that...
Amidst repeated tearful outbursts about the strangest little things, I asked Breanna why she kept crying about everything today, and she said, "You're just not making my day today!"

Shakes
Breanna just asked me to make ice cream (shakes in the blender). I said that's Daddy's thing. She reminded me that I made them with ice when Grammy was here (a diet version). I asked her if she wanted me to make that kind, and she said, "No, but you can do the other kind. Maybe you just forgot to turn something on in your brain."

Wouldn't that be handy?!?
After Bible study yesterday, Breanna said she didn't need her hood up because it was sunshiney. I said she might need it up so her ears didn't get cold. She replied, "No. I have warmer-uppers in my ears."

Things You Don't Think You'll Ever Say Part 7...
"We don't get naked at the table!"
Katelyn had poured part of my Dr. Pepper down her front (through 2 white shirts and jeans), so she was in just a diaper and not strapped into her seat, since she was just having peaches for a snack (actually just dumping them on the table and playing in them). I did some dishes and turned back around, only to discover a naked Katelyn standing up in her high chair. At least she only got peaches in her bangs. :-)

A trip to Africa
Breanna has taken every toy in the family room and piled it under her tipped-over slide. I asked her to put at least some of them back, and she said it was all her stuff to take to Africa. In an effort to play along with her imaginative scenario, I said, "Well, you can't check that much luggage any more. They'll make you pay for it all, so you should put some of it back." But she replied, "No, I can get it there for free."
Then, to call her to the table, I said, "It's time to come back from Africa now." She replied, "I don't have a map. I only have the map to get to Africa, but someone took the map to get home and I can't buy one anywhere!"
Sheesh.

Nice surprise
We were at church last night and Breanna wanted to play in the gym, but there was a sign saying there was an obstacle course set up for the preschool. So I told her she couldn't play, but there would be a big surprise at school for her the next day. She thought about it and said, "I hope the surprise isn't an elephant or a crocodile." Um... me, too!

Katelyn's potty mouth
Katelyn pottied again today. :-) Then she peed about 6 inches away from the potty - on the rug. The best part? Everyone remember what she called "Paci"? Well, you should hear "rug." The only thing she got right was the vowel sound. I would have expected it with "truck" or "fork," but not "rug."
